“I know you only from the eyes”

Inspiration - I see you through eyes

Ever since the pandemic, I have had to wear a mask every day. I wear a mask to go to classes, parties, club activities…… Even right now, I still have to wear a mask to type down these words in the library. Because the local laws in Hong Kong still require everyone to wear a mask in public areas. Nearly three years passed, can everyone still remember what I actually look like?

But, it’s not just me. All my friends’ faces are covered by masks every day. For someone I met after the covid-19, I even could not depict their faces in my brain, but only their eyes.

When you can only see others through their eyes, you will start to pay much attention to these incredible little balls. Through their eyes, I see people’s emotions, personalities, and feelings. This starts to become the way I know and recognize other people, especially people I met after the pandemic.

Recently, I realize that if a friend asks me to draw a portrait right now, the first thing that comes into my mind will be the eyes. After covering by masks for three years, I know them only from the eyes. Eyes, eyes, eyes…… I feel like my life is no longer filled with faces, but eyes. Yeah, this is how I learn about you, and how you learn about me - through eyes.

Why VR?

Since the way I learn about others is by looking through their eyes, I start to feel that these little balls are quite outstanding. I notice everyone’s eyes. I want to emphasize that my life start to be filled with eyeballs.

Obviously, drawing in 3D space can allow me to express an immersive experience and share my true feelings. There are no limits within the VR space canvas. I can freely fill the space with my imagination - my brain’s understanding of the eyes of my friends. I create these huge eyeballs to express my life - I can only see others from their eyes.

Even right now, I still don’t know when I can really uncover myself, and my friends can uncover themselves. But I’m still dreaming about that day: the day I can really see others’ faces, and the day these eyeballs from my brain become smaller and back to normal……
